Family run – in Erlangen since 1973
In October 1973 the Alter Simpl opened with the “Brotzeitstube”. Rudi and Christa Gstader decorated the premises with many items from farmhouses in the region and added the “Trinkstube” with its fireplace in 1974.
At the beginning of the 1980s the family added four more rooms (“Weinstuben”) on the second floor.
Since the year 2000 their son, Marc Gstader, has been running the restaurant together with his wife Conny.
Marc learned his trade at the Hotel Königshof in Munich and at Rainer Clever’s restaurant Schwarzer Bär. After that he travelled the world to broaden his cultural and culinary horizon.
Conny received training as a hotel business manager. Her grandparents owned a restaurant and a butcher’s shop in Baiersdorf.
After almost 50 years the menu at the Alter Simpl has remained true to its roots. Nevertheless Marc and his wife are always trying to introduce new influences.
The specialties from our barbecue have always been some of the highlights. Moreover we offer seasonal dishes, such as venison specialty weeks in autumn.
Our grilled sausages are homemade from our very own recipe, just like all our soups and sauces.
Meet our staff and enjoy the friendly atmosphere. You’ll feel right at home at the Alter Simpl!
